Premiere picks up horror-thriller ‘Beneath Us’ (exclusive)

Los Angeles Based Premiere Entertainment Group has bolstered its Toronto sales slate with wordwide rights to horror-thriller Beneath Us starring Lynn Collins and James Tupper

The film follows a group of undocumented workers hired by an affluent woman and her husband to work on their house.

By the time the labourers sense something is not right with their employers, they realize they have become prisoners inside the home.

Max Pachman directed from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mark Mavrothalastis. Luis Guerrero and Chris Lemos produced Beneath us for Vital Pictures, while Jay Hernandez served as executive producer.

“We are excited to be teaming up with Luis and Chris on their unique and original elevated genre film,” Premiere president and CEO Elias Axume said. “Similar to Get out,  the film intelligently deals with pertinent social issues in a suspenseful manner.”

Guerrero and Lemos added, “We’re very excited to partner with Premiere Entertainment Group, and look forward to a successful relationship towards the selling our film.” Axume negotiated the deal with Guerrero and Lemos.

Premiere Entertainment launches David Arquette rom-com ‘Couples Vacation’

Los Angeles-based Premiere Entertainment Group is Toronto-bound with international rights to rom-com Couples Vacation starring David Arquette and Amy Acker

Brandon Dickerson wrote and directed the film about two people who plan a glamping retreat to rekindle their marriage, only for things to take a comedic turn for the worse once they get there.

Dickerson also produced Couples Vacation with Boyhood producer Cathleen Sutherland and Susan Kirr. Erik Lokkesmoe serves as executive producer.

Gravitas Ventures will release the film in North America on November 10 under the title Amanda & Jack Go Glamping.

Arquette is currently filming family drama Saving Flora, while Acker will next be seen in the Marvel TV series The Gifted.

“We are so pleased to see this film get out there in the world, using humour to speak to a universal quest to find the balance and harmony in relationships, and ultimately happiness,” Sutherland said. “The grass is not always greener on the other side of the donkey fence.”

“It’s the perfect date night movie,” Premiere’s vice-president of development and acquisitions said. “The audience will find themselves immersed in the story and cheering for Arquette’s character to save his marriage.

IFC Midnight acquires ‘Devil’s Gate’ with Milo Ventimiglia

IFC Midnight has tied up a North American deal on Devil’s Gate (known as Abduction internationally) following the film’s premiere at Tribeca.

Premiere Entertainment Group handles international rights and has been in talks with buyers on the Croisette.

Milo Ventimiglia, riding high on NBC hit This is Us, stars alongside Amanda Schull and Shawn Ashmore in the sci-fi thriller.

Devil’s Gate centres on the story centres on an FBI investigation into the case of a missing woman and her son. The husband is the chief suspect, although nothing is as it at first seems.

Clay Staub, who served as second unit director on the likes of 300 and Dawn Of The Dead, makes his feature directorial debut and wrote the screenplay.

Premiere plays Tribeca title ‘The Last Poker Game’ with Martin Landau and Paul Sorvino

Premiere Entertainment Group has bolstered its sales slate by taking international rights to Tribeca dramedy The Last Poker Game starring Martin Landau and Paul Sorvino.

The film follows a doctor who gets into hot water after befriending a womanising gambler at his wife’s nursing home.

Maria Dizzia also stars in the film that premiered at the New York Film Festival last month.

Renowned 72-year-old neurologist Howard L. Weiner made his feature directorial debut on The Last Poker Game from his own screenplay. He also produced.

Premiere president and CEO Elias Axume and Rincon negotiated the deal with Preferred Content’s Kevin Iwashina and Zac Bright on behalf of the producers.

Peter Pastorelli, Eddie Rubin, and Marshall Johnson of Long Road Film also produced, and Tamar Sela and Walter Klenhard served as executive producers.

“This is a charming, touching, and raunchy dramedy that is full of unexpected surprises,” said Carlos Rincon, Premiere’s vice-president of development and acquisitions.

“We instantly fell in love with the film and were amazed to discover that it is written and directed by a 72-year old neurology professor from Harvard.”

Premiere picks up UFO thriller ‘Encounter

EXCLUSIVE: Sci-fi directed by Fulvio Sestito will be sold to international buyers at Cannes.

Premiere Entertainment Group has added the sci-fi thriller Encounter starring Peter Stormare to its slate and will commence talks with worldwide buyers on the Croisette.

The film screens tomorrow [May 18] and centres on a documentary filmmaker who travels to a UFO convention in New Mexico where he meets a local artist with a dark secret.

As they follow a trail of clues they discover disturbing sightings and question all they believe when they become immersed in the enigmatic culture of the pueblo Indians.

Ryan Carnes, Jordan Hinson, Dee Wallace, and Martin Sensmeier star alongside Stormare.

Effects artist Fulvio Sestito wrote the screenplay and makes his feature directorial debut.

Rebecca Berrih and Martine Melloul of Elysian Fields Entertainment produced with Evan Cholfin.

Encounter will screen in 4K and joins a Premiere slate that includes the Scott Adkins thriller Incoming; thriller You Were Never Here starring Mireille Enos and Sam Shepard; drama Run The Tide starring Taylor Lautner; and family title Breaking Brooklyn with Louis Gossett Jr and Nathan Kress.

“We are proud to be introducing Encounter to the foreign buyers in Cannes,” Premiere Entertainment vice-president of development and acquisitions Carlos Rincon said.

“The film features terrific VFX and promises to keep everyone on the edge of their seat.”

Scott Adkins To Star In Indie Thriller ‘Incoming’

Doctor Strange actor Scott Adkins has been tapped as the lead in Benattar/Thomas Productions’ sci-fi action thriller Incoming, with helmer Eric Zaragoza making his film directorial debut. XLrator Media has secured the North American distribution rights to the film, which is currently in production in Belgrade, Serbia. Jorge Saralegui wrote the screenplay, based on an original story by Rick Benattar, Nigel Thomas and Jorge Saralegui, about an International Space Station that now serves as a prison. When the imprisoned terrorists take over the Station and turn it into a missile aimed at Moscow, only a shuttle pilot and a rookie doctor can stop them. Adkins, repped by BWH, Link, and Gersh, plays a rogue CIA agent who has his own plans for the station and the terrorists within. The film is financed by the UK’s Sharp House Foreign. Sales will be handled by Premiere Entertainment Group. Rick Benattar and Nigel Thomas are producing alongside Premiere’s Elias Axume and Red Production’s Milos Dukelic. Executive producers are XLrator’s Barry Gordon and Michael Radiloff, and Sharp House’s Ian Sharp, Rebecca Joerin-Sharp and Emma Dutton.

Los Angeles-based Premiere Entertainment Group has picked up international rights for EFM on Run The Tide starring Taylor Lautner.

The family drama centres on a young man who flees with his brother to the California coast when his drug addict mother is released from prison.

Soham Mehta makes his feature directorial debut from Rajiv Shah’s script. Pilar Savone produces and the cast includes newcomer Nico Christou and Constance Zimmer.

Momentum Pictures and Orion Releasing distributed Run The Tide in the US in December.

Premiere president and CEO Axume and newly arrived vice-president of development and acquisitions Carlos Rincon negotiated the deal with WME Global.

Rincon has joined Premiere Entertainment Group from Spotlight Pictures where he headed the acquisitions team for nearly five years and also handled North American sales.

Premiere picks up dance drama ‘Breaking Brooklyn’

EXCLUSIVE: Paul Becker directs the story of a homeless dancer and his brother.

Premiere Entertainment Group (PEG) has acquired international sales rights to the family holiday film Breaking Brooklyn.

Louis Gossett Jr and newcomer Colin Critchley, Nathan Kress and Madeleine Mantock star in the story about a homeless young dancer and his brother who are taken in by an old Broadway showman when their father is arrested.

When one of the young men learns that their new guardian could lose his theatre, they enter a dance contest to save it.

Paul Becker directs and Elie Samaha, Donald Kushner and Missy Valdez are the producers.

PEG CEO Elias Axume launches sales in Berlin at the European Film Market (EFM) this week and brokered the rights acquisition with Samaha.

The sales slate includes psychological thriller You Were Never Here starring Mireille Enos and Sam Shepard; crime drama The Preppie Connection; and family drama We Don’t Belong Here with Catherine Keener, Anton Yelchin, Kaitlyn Dever, Maya Rudolph, Cary Elwes and Riley Keough.

EXCLUSIVE: LA-based company arrives at AFM with international rights to psychological thriller starring Mireille Enos from executive producers Zachary Quinto and Neal Dodson.

Camille Thoman wrote and directed You Were Never Here, which also stars Sam Shepard, Goran Visnjic, Vincent Piazza and Nina Arianda.

Enos plays an artist who may be taking things too far when she investigates a series of disturbing events and begins to suspect someone is watching her.

Julian Cautherley, Radium Cheung, Bronwyn Cornelius, Corey Moosa, Camille Thoman and Elizabeth Yng-Wong produced. Executive producers Quinto and Dodson produced Margin Call.

Premiere Entertainment Group bulks up EFM slate

EXCLUSIVE: The sales company has added The Preppie Connection and We Don’t Belong Here to its roster of titles on the eve of the EFM.

Joseph Castelo wrote and directed The Preppie Connection (pictured) starring Thomas Mann from Me And Earl And The Dying Girl, Lucy Fry, Sam Page and Logan Huffman.

The story is inspired by the true story of students at the private Choate Rosemary Hall School in Connecticut who attempted to smuggle $300,000 of cocaine into the country. IFC will distribute in the US on March 18.

Joseph Mensch, Adam Folk, Joseph Castelo, Billy Raftery, Charlie Bunting, Eric Schultz, and Carlo Sirtori produced.

Tony Piantedosi, director of development and acquisitions at Premiere Entertainment Group, brokered the deal with Schultz and ICM Partners.

Premiere Entertainment svp of sales and acquisitions, Jack Campbell, who brokered the deal, said: “This true account takes the viewer on a wild ride of building a drug empire as an outsider at a stuffy prep school and reaping the extraordinary rewards as well as the tumultuous consequences.”

Family drama We Don’t Belong Here from Peer Pedersen stars Catherine Keener, Anton Yelchin, and Kaitlyn Dever in the story of a girl who investigates her family’s past to better understand her brother’s odd behaviour and uncovers a sinister secret.

Maya Rudolph and Riley Keough also star and Adam Gibbs, Annelise Dekker-Hernandez, Michael Kristoff, and Roger Joseph Pugliese produced.

“Director Peer Pederesen crafted a deeply moving story using an all-star cast who give phenomenal performances” said Campbell.

Piantedosi negotiated the deal with Gibbs and Peer Pedersen. The producers retain US rights.

EXCLUSIVE: Premiere Entertainment Group has concluded a raft of sales on action thriller Code Of Honor starring Steven Seagal.

Premiere CEO Elias Axume, SVP of sales and acquisitions Jack Campbell and the team will show Toronto buyers the first trailer from the in-house production that wrapped earlier this year.

Deals have closed in France (Metropolitan), Benelux (Just Bridge), Spain (Flins y Piniculas), Italy (Minerva), and Canada (VVS).

Rights have gone in China (DDDream), Eastern Europe & CIS (MGN/Paradise), Middle East (Eagle Films), Japan (Klockworx), South Korea (Joy N Contents), Malaysia (Suraya), Turkey (Fida Film), Thailand (Coral) and Africa (Daro).

Seagal stars in Code Of Honor as a former military commander who sets out to rid the city of crime. Craig Sheffer plays a former protégé who teams up with local police to stop the vigilante.

Premiere’s sales portfolio includes Sundance 2014 selection Little Accidents starring Elizabeth Banks, comedic drama Match with Patrick Stewart and family comedy Good Ol’ Boy with Jason Lee.

Production has wrapped on in-house adventure Papa directed by Bob Yari and starring Giovanni Ribisi and Minka Kelly, as well as action film The Night Crew starring Luke Goss and Bokeem Woodbine.

The company is in post-production on survival thriller Abandoned starring Dominic Purcell, while the pre-production pipeline includes revenge drama Resolute with Carrie-Anne Moss and Juan Felipe Orozco’s sci-fi Ordeal.

EXCLUSIVE: Survival thriller is set to start shooting in New Zealand this week and stars Dominic Purcell.

Premiere Entertainment Group has acquired worldwide rights to Abandoned.

The survival thriller is directed by John Laing and stars Prison Break’s Dominic Purcell. It is set to start shooting in New Zealand this week.

Based on a true story, Abandoned centres on four men who face almost certain death when their yacht capsizes.

The deal was brokered by Elias Axume, CEO of Premiere, and Grant Bradley on behalf of the producers.

Premiere Entertainment’s svp Jack Campbell commented: “We’re extremely excited to introduce this film to the worldwide market. Steven Seagal is back in action with the Premiere Entertainment Group thriller Code of Honor, which has just started rolling in Salt Lake City, Utah. The story follows a special forces colonel who returns from a Middle East tour. Noticing that his home town has disintegrated into a violent world run by murderers and narco-terrorists, the colonel takes the situation into his own hands by entering the shadow world. No one can stop him, except for maybe an old teammate.

The film is written and directed by Michael Winnick and also stars Craig Sheffer (A River Runs Through It) and Helena Mattsson (Iron Man 2). Ryan Noto, president of Premiere Entertainment, is producing as well as CEO Elias Axume.

Premiere Entertainment has come on board to handle worldwide sales at Cannes on the Brendan Fraser family comedy.

Alex Wolff, Parker Posey and Julia Garner also star in the story about the unlikely friendship between two college freshmen – one a 14-year-old genius and the other a 40-something former gambler.

Billy Kent directed from a screenplay he co-wrote with Sarah Bird and Adam Wierbianski.

Senior vp Jack Campbell acquired HairBrained, which screens in the market on May 20. “We’re very excited to be taking HairBrained to Cannes this year,” said Campbell. “It’s a well-made, star-driven, lighthearted comedy, which rounds out our slate quite nicely.”

Premiere’s Cannes roster includes Juno Temple starrer Afternoon Delight, which earned Jill Soloway the dramatic best director prize at Sundance this year.
